Kwon Eun Young Pottery Workshop Recap: A Weekend of Creativity and Mastery
On November 11th and 12th, we had the honor of hosting the incredibly talented Korean ceramic artist Kwon Eun Young for a two-day pottery workshop that left a lasting impression on all who attended. Traveling all the way from Korea, Kwon shared her unique approach to ceramics, guiding participants through the creation of beautiful, intricate pieces that blended traditional techniques with her signature style.
Day 1: Crafting a Centerpiece with Kwon’s Signature Thorns
The first day of the workshop was all about creating a striking centerpiece inspired by Kwon Eun Young’s signature "thorns" design. Attendees were introduced to Kwon’s distinctive approach, which emphasizes organic shapes and textures. Under her guidance, participants crafted pieces with a powerful visual impact, incorporating her thorn motifs that evoke both strength and delicate beauty.
The workshop was hands-on, with Kwon offering personalized tips on shaping, refining, and adding texture to the pieces. The result was a collection of stunning, one-of-a-kind centerpieces that showcased each attendee’s creativity while staying true to Kwon's unique aesthetic.
Day 2: Creating a Beautiful 3-Piece Brunch Set with Kwon’s Signature Thorns
On the second day, the focus shifted to creating a beautiful 3-piece brunch set. Each participant molded three delicate pottery pieces, bringing together form and function in a beautiful way. The standout element of the day was the stunning gold painting applied to the thorn designs, which added a striking and elegant touch to the pieces. The shimmering gold contrasted beautifully with the earthy tones of the pottery, giving each brunch set an almost magical, impactful finish.
Kwon’s expert guidance and emphasis on fine details, especially in the painting and glazing techniques, elevated the participants' work to a new level. The final results were both intricate and impactful, showcasing the deep connection between nature and artistry that Kwon instills in her work.
